Choeng Mon
A protected bay, built into granite.
Choeng Mon sits in a tight, sheltered bay on the island's northeast corner — calmer water than the open-swell east coast, and a hillside behind it that several of Samui's more serious architectural projects have worked with rather than against. Samujana, the island's best-documented example of villas cut directly into granite hillside using the excavated rock as material, sits here.
It reads as the most considered of the villa-enclave areas: private, elevated in places, close enough to the airport and to Bophut and Plai Laem to stay convenient.
